Fast-growing number of
Pets in households
The shift from pet ownership to pet parenting has been a crucial and defining trend in the market, particularly in developed countries. More than one-third of households in developed countries own a pet.
85 million European households have a pet. As this number increases, so does their role in people’s lives. Pets offer companionship, affection and protection and unique bonds are formed with their owners.
A strong growth in
Petfood production
Europe is the leading pet food producer by region with the highest volume production in 2021, producing 11.59 million tons at a growth rate of 2.7 percent. North American pet food production totaled 10.60 million tons in 2021, up 12.7% from 2020.
The strongest growth in pet food production was recorded in the Asia-Pacific region, which produced 3.81 million tons at a growth rate of 17.1%.
Pet food production in Latin America increased by 7.7% to 7.18 million tons, and production in Africa increased by 2.3% to about 454,000 tons. Oceania produced about 452,000 tons of pet food in 2021 and the Middle East produced about 75,000 tons.
More and more concerned about the health of their pets, pet owners are paying more attention to the composition of the products they buy and their nutritional virtues. As a result, feed products are increasingly segmented according to expected benefits but also according to breed, age, weight, etc.
