Animal welfare is of outmost importance in all livestock production systems. When an animal is not able anymore to cope with his environment this can lead to discomfort and stress. This results in a poorer animal welfare and lower performances or product quality degradation (meat, eggs…). Depending on the stressor (endogenous or exogenous), the caused stress can be acute (ex. during transport) or chronic (ex. social stress).

Trial results

The  trial was performed in pig selection station on 96 pigs (Pietrain, Large White, Landrace). animals were randomly divided in two groups: the control and the treated group of pigs (1l/1000l of Durelax® Liquid in the water) in the same proportions. The drinking water supplementation started 3 days before the regrouping and the day of the grouping, for the treated groups. Aggressive events, like aggression, ear biting, tail biting and running were counted daily during four days. Observations of aggressive behavior (ear and tail biting, running and aggression) were observed during 90 minutes each day.

During this trial, the supplementation of Durelax® had a significant impact on the reduction of stress reactions for post-weaning pigs.
