Issues

Oxidative stress is a phenomenon caused by an instability of the oxidative balance in favor of free radicals. It can have important sanitary, zootechnical and economic repercussions in animal husbandry.

The issues related to oxidative stress are multiple, vary from one species to another and also depend on the environment and the animal’s diet. Facing this complexity, it is necessary to understand the antioxidant needs in order to provide them with a diversified and easily assimilated supplementation.

Composition

Nor-Grape®80 is composed of Vitis vinifera grape extract standardized in total polyphenols and on 4 specific phyto markers. This extract is registered in the European Register of Feed Additives under the name of Grape Extract (2b485).

These strict control procedures ensure a constant and unique antioxidant activity.

Trial results

In a trial conducted on 300 sows in Canada, the supplementation of lactating sows with Nor-Grape® showed a significant improvement in the antioxidant parameters of colostrum.

In fact, the colostrum of sows supplemented with Nor-Grape® contained 28% more glutathione peroxidase.

These observations are also correlated with a clear increase in piglet weight at weaning.

The results here show an increase in weight of 5.82% at weaning day for the piglets supplemented with Nor-Grape®

Usage

Mode of action

The polyphenols contained in Nor-Grape® 80 have a complete antioxidant activity that has been demonstrated by numerous in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo trials.

These polyphenols act at different levels of the antioxidant system:
